Thank You for Contacting Us
Thank you for reaching out. Many people contact us during uncertain or stressful moments, such as after a diagnosis, a medical episode, or when symptoms become harder to manage. If that’s where you are, you’re not alone, and we’re here to help you explore your options.
Why People Choose Medical Mutts
Medical Mutts specializes in task-trained medical-alert and service dogs, including support for medical alerts (diabetes, seizures, etc.), psychiatric tasks, hearing alerts, light mobility assistance, migraines, and other health-related needs. Unlike most trainers who primarily focus on pets, our work centers entirely on disability support, reliable task conditioning, and safe public-access behavior.
We use evidence-based training methods, select all of our dogs from shelters and rescues, and provide long-term support to ensure each team succeeds - including replacement at no additional cost if a match does not work out.
“Working with Medical Mutts gave us safety, confidence, and independence again.”
Fully Trained Service Dogs (Program Dogs)
For people who need consistent support both at home and in public, our fully trained Program Dogs offer the most structured and dependable path.
Client fees reflect only a portion of the true cost of training, made possible through donor and grant support.
Typical client cost: $15,000–$25,000
(Comparable programs nationally are often $20,000–$35,000+)
Program Dogs include:
-
specialized medical-alert and task training
-
full public-access preparation
-
veterinary care
-
10 days of on-site team training
-
lifetime support
-
a no-cost replacement guarantee if the placement does not work out
All Program Dog clients also receive ongoing support at no additional cost, including access to our weekly live Zoom support meetings where clients can ask questions, troubleshoot challenges, and connect with trainers and other service-dog handlers.
Availability is limited, and the typical wait time is 12-24 months.
For more details, please read our Applicant Packet.
Board & Train (We Train Your Dog)
If you already have a dog with potential, our service-dog Board & Train program allows our trainers to handle the intensive training and task conditioning.
Typical total cost: ~$13,590
Availability is limited due to kennel and trainer capacity.
Train Your Own Dog (Owner Training)
Some clients choose to train their own dog with our structured professional support. Owner training includes group classes, private coaching, and optional Board & Train, depending on your needs and timeline.
👉 Typical total for our group class pathway: ~$1,780
Our curriculum covers everything from basic obedience to public-access skills and task training, so no prior training is required. Classes may be repeated at no additional cost, and private coaching is available at any stage.
Owner-training clients also have access to our weekly live Zoom support meetings at no additional cost.
This option offers flexibility and is often the most affordable way to work toward a medical alert or psychiatric support dog, while still receiving expert guidance and ongoing support.
For more information, please read our Owner Training Packet.
All owner-training paths begin with a temperament assessment ($120).
